St. Martin's Island
A small island with a very big sky
Known locally as Narikel Jinjira — Coconut Island — and the only coral island in Bangladesh.
About the island
Palms, coral and slow days
Rows of coconut trees, keya groves, and waves breaking on the reef: St. Martin's is a tropical world in miniature, floating in the north-east corner of the Bay of Bengal. Days here move at walking pace.
At the southern tip lies Chera Dwip, a rocky islet of unusual coral-stone formations. Sea turtles nest on the island's shores, and the fishing boats you see on the flats are the same ones that supply the island's tables.

Things to do
How to spend your days

Watch the sun go down
Walk out onto the reef flats an hour before sunset. The tide-pools catch the sky and every step is a photograph. Ask us for the day's tide timings first.

Walk the coral at low tide
Rock pools, shells and tiny sea life appear as the water pulls back. Look, don't take — the coral is alive and fragile.

Meet the fishing boats
Wooden boats line the shore and go out at dawn. It's a quiet, beautiful scene — and a good moment to chat with the fishermen.

Stroll the palm-lined beach
Wide sand, warm shallows and shade from the palms. Easy for families, and lovely at golden hour.
Also on the island
- Chera Dwip — a rocky islet at the southern tip; ask reception before heading out, as access depends on the tide.
- Fresh seafood from island eateries, grilled the day it's caught.
- Starry skies on clear nights — there is very little light pollution out here.
